Corsica Day 1

We are in Corsica for two weeks. We are spending the first week in a rental unit overlooking the ocean just outside of Porto Vecchio. The place isn't luxurious, but the view is fantastic, and it's a great space for our group. There are two bedrooms upstairs, with a shared bathroom, and two more downstairs, with a second shared bathroom. There's a living room, dining room, kitchen, and a great patio with wide ocean views.

Unfortunately, the downstairs shower leaks onto the bathroom floor. First thing on the first morning, I slipped on the floor and hurt my foot. We thought it was broken. Four hours and a trip to the hospital later... Not broken, hugely swollen, pretty painful, and headed for a boot. Unfortunately, Amy had to keep all four kids while Tim and I went to the clinic. Luckily, I can stumble through enough French to communicate generally with the hospital staff (I surprised myself with my ability to say something close to "I fell while getting out of the shower.") I'll get a boot and some pain medication tomorrow (I swear I asked if the pharmacy was open today, and I swear I was told yes, but, alas).

When we got back, Amy already had the littles down for a nap. After a rousing game of Uno with the big kids, Tim and Amy took them to the pool in our "compound." It's not quite the beach, but you can see the ocean from the pool. And if the screams of joy I could hear while sitting on the patio are any indication, the kids had a great time. We discovered a little market of local Corsican foods, from which we assembled dinner (a good discovery, since the grocery store was so crowded as to render the parking lot un-navigable). Tomorrow, things will improve.
