Corsica Day 0

We spent the morning in Pisa. It was a hot day. We walked from our super awesome airbnb rental just a couple of blocks from the Piazza dei Miracoli, down to the Arno, and back up to the piazza. The crowds were swarming, and we were hot, so we let the kids roll around in the shade in a tucked away corner then piled into the cars to head to the ferry in Livorno.

At the ferry terminal, we found a reasonable spot on the floor to have a picnic lunch (in the air conditioning!) while we waited for the boat. The plan with the boat was for me to walk on with the three oldest kids while Tim and Amy drove the cars on. We waited for about 15 minutes in the sweltering heat, queued to board, then were dismissed with a "non possibile. Solo con la macchina." So I hurried with three children through rows of boarding cars (that were already moving onto the boat) to get them back in their seats in the cars. Once we got on the boat, we searched high and low for a space to camp out. We found one in the bar, with seats enough for everyone, and got settled in to wait for the air conditioning to kick in. It didn't. Four hours and two cranky no-nap toddlers later, we got back into our cars (it was 43 degrees in the garage on the boat... And I don't mean that it was chilly...) and headed onto Corsica... To an immense traffic jam. 45 minutes and 3 kilometers later, we took a chance on "Le Patio" for dinner. It wasn't half bad. We finished our 2+ hour drive to our rental unit and the gate guard who was super-thrilled to welcome us at 11:50pm (not!), chucked the (mostly) sleeping children into their beds, took some showers (explicitly noting that one of the showers leaks onto the bathroom floor), then fell asleep ourselves.
