From Trento, we drove west, first to the town of Udine in the northwest of Italy. We spent a hot afternoon wandering around the town before having a (very nice) dinner. Tim's photographs of Udine make it look more enticing and attractive than it really was -- while we really enjoyed the food we had here, there was not a lot else to recommend the city. The local museum, however, did allow us completely free entry simply because we brought a kid along. All of that said, it was a convenient stopover en route to our next destination -- Slovenia.

Trento -- Revisited
We started our 2022 European vacation with a visit to the Levico Lake with friends (straight from the Venice airport). We cleaned up after some swimming and stand-up-paddle-boarding and then met them again for dinner and some much-missed cinnamon gelato. The next day, we visited all of the old places and some new ones -- swung by both girls' former schools, visited a favorite park and the Buonconsiglio castle (which Cora didn't really remember), got Maya her much-missed gnocchi for lunch, had some more gelato, visited the recently reopened clock tower for some new-to-us views (the clock tower had a quite devastating fire just after we arrived in 2015), took the funicular up to Sardagna, then capped the day with Tim's much-missed pizza and one more scoop of gelato at the fountain. Whew.
