Venice: Friday

This past weekend, Amy and GP volunteered to let Maya spend the weekend at their place so Tim and I could see Venice.  We left Trento Friday late in the morning to arrive in Venice in time for lunch.  Friday we just figured out how to park the car, got some quick (sit down on a bench and eat) lunch, and wandered around.  And got lost a couple of times.  Venice is beautiful in many respects, not the least of which is that it is really very different from anyplace else we've been.  At least while we were there, there were always multiple enormous cruise ships parked in the harbor, with hordes of people that descended on St. Mark's Square in the middle of the day.  This made the obvious places insanely crowded between about 10am and 6pm, but any other time and any other place outside of basically St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge and the streets between them, Venice was very quiet and lovely to stroll around.  And getting lost in teeny alleys (literally less than 3 feet across) in the evenings was priceless.

Friday was a stroll, see, and shop day.  Tim, of course, took some photos.  Then we had a very late dinner (which we could never have done with Maya!) at a restaurant Amy and GP recommended.  It was way out of the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area, and it was fantastic.  While waiting for our late reservation, we also found a (clearly very) local, neighborhood pub for a drink.
