Oahu Day 3

Today, I was free, so we planned a full day for the three of us together.  We started off with a delicious breakfast at a place called "Eggs and Things."  Then we got in our car and headed out to the Bishop Museum, which is an eclectic mix of Hawaiian cultural artifacts and scientific exhibits (read "volcanoes").  They also had a temporary exhibit about dinosaurs.  We saw the Hawaiian cultural exhibits first, then the dinosaurs (many of which were mechatronic), where, among other things, we learned about coprolite from a dinosaur called the Maiasaurus.  In the science hall, we learned a lot about volcanoes and wind, and we got to see lava form.

After a quick lunch in the museum cafe, we headed out to Monoa, a suburban area just north of downtown Honolulu.  We parked literally just beside a residential area, and within five minutes were deep within a rainforest.  We did a relatively easy hike of less than a mile up to a very impressive waterfall.  Along the way, we saw cool rainforest things, including birds and lots of vegetation... some of the plants had leaves bigger than Maya!  It was pretty dark in the rainforest, so Tim had some trouble with photos, but I think he got some great ones!

We had dinner with some friends at a "Eurasian Tapas" restaurant (we still don't know what that means) before tucking in in preparation for an early start tomorrow.
