This morning, Tim got up early to do a short hike near our condo to something called "the Queen's Bath." It was basically a rocky area, in one part of which the ocean created a calm, bath-shaped tidal pool. The trek in was a little too treacherous for the lot of us...
After we cleaned up and checked out of our condo on the North Shore, we loaded up the car and headed for the second half of our week on Kauai on the South Shore. On the way, we stopped by and saw Opaeka'a Falls and then stopped at Lydgate Park near Wailua. The park was lovely with a GREAT playscape (basically of the same type as in the park near my parent's house in Georgetown, TX) and a very nice beach for playing on.
After playing at the park, we went back to Wailua for lunch and a stroll. After that, we hopped in the car for the rest of the drive to the south. One-third (the RIGHT one-third, in fact) of us took a nap on the way, and then we ended up at the Spouting Horn, a geyser-like attraction on the southern coast. Every minute or so, the waves some in just right so that the ocean water comes up underneath the rocks and goes shooting up in the air. This one is particularly unique because the pressure also forces air out of a smaller hole, which makes a moaning sound.
We went from the Spouting Horn to check in to our new condo, then headed to Poipu Beach, where Maya (finally) got in the ocean and became (somewhat) acclimated to the fact that waves move. (This was helped by the fact that our condo has a treasure chest of beach toys, including a PINK floaty-vest.) After the beach, we cleaned up and had a lovely dinner at a resort down the road. There is a clear difference between the North Shore and the South Shore; the southern part of Kauai is much more resort centric. This is of course good and bad.
