Oahu Day 2

Maya and Tim spent the morning at one of the hotel pools while Christine attended her conference (and delivered a workshop keynote talk).  The pool required kids under 4 feet tall to have some form of floatation to traverse the water slides (the only one Maya was willing to go through was literally 5 feet long).  Maya was a big fan of her arm floaties.  She had the utmost confidence in them, as long as her feet could touch and were touching the ground.

Maya learned the word sushi last night and wanted to try some for lunch today.  Tim had sushi and Maya had part of a boiled shrimp sashimi (she oddly didn't like the rice).  Sushi's not for her.  The "hotel" is a sprawling complex including shopping and restaurants, including a place called Pronto Pickle.  It is essentially a grab and go stand with some hot entrees.  Maya decided she would like to have some meatballs and marinara.  I guess it is fortunate we are going to Trento in August and not Tokyo.

After a nap, Maya insisted on more pool time.  After an hour of standing in 2 1/2 feet of water with arm floaties on, Tim and Maya went on a walk along Waikiki Beach to Kapiolani Park.  They saw more people and businesses in a 2 mile stretch than in the entire Kauai trip.  They turned around after reaching the (closed) zoo and a huge Banyan tree.  They returned to the hotel to rendezvous with Christine, then it was off to dinner with Jaime P and family at Duke's Canoe Club in the Outrigger Hotel.
