Piemonte

Our plan from Genoa had been to go to Cinque Terre.  But unfortunately, the area has seen devastating flooding over the past few weeks.  So we replanned and headed back to the Piemonte region.  We stayed at an adorable agritoursimo between La Morra and Barolo, smack in the middle of the Piemonte wine region. The place we stayed was fabulous.  We had a basically homemade breakfast both mornings we were there with all kinds of homemade breads, jellies, cakes, yogurts, etc.  The house salami and twelve different local cheeses (yes, I counted) rounded out the meal.  I just wanted to sit and eat breakfast all morning.  But alas...  So we spent the full day we were there driving around the area, looking at medieval castles and other Italian small town scenes.  It was overcast and a bit cloudy (labeled as "clear" on the weather forecast), but we had a grand time.  And the two restaurants we had dinner at were beyond delicious.  On the way back to Trento, we stopped in Pavia, mostly for the purpose of seeing the Certosa di Pavia (of which photographs are not allowed).  What a fabulous two day addition to our getaway.

Here are a couple of pictures of our room at the agritourismo:
