Palio delle Contrade di Trento

This weekend, there is a festival in Trento commemorating a battle in the 15th century in which invading forces were prevented from entering Trento.  The festival includes an archery competition, some parades, a demonstration of flag bearers, lots of medieval artisans, etc.  We spent the (hot) day on Saturday watching the festivities, which were quite colorful and entertaining.  In some manner, there is a competition among the Contrade (districts) of Trento, but we couldn't tell how that was sorted out.   Tim's photos are from the morning when the participants were mostly practicing and also from a more involved afternoon performance.
