Zurich Day 5 (Part 1)

Tuesday was a rainy day, pretty much anywhere we went.  We spent the morning in Lucerne, so that's the first part.  We mostly wandered around in the rain, seeing the cool (long) covered bridge.  Then we saw the Panorama (a 360 degree painting of the internment of the French in Switzerland after the Franco-Prussian war).  It was very impressive.  Just up the street from that was a lion monument that commemorates those wounded in battle.  We had lunch at a delicious brewery, then headed for the train to Basel for the afternoon.

Swans were swimming all around the port.  Even though the sign forbid it.

The Kapellbrucke.  It's a wooden covered bridge that weaves across the river in Lucerne.

The "modern" bridge (just next to the Kapellbrucke).

Rain dripping from the Kapellbrucke.

In 1993, 80% of the bridge burned.  It's obviously been repaired, but you can see evidence of the fire in many places.  Each of the triangular pieces (you see part of one below) had a fresco inside of it; those were obviously lost.

The Hoffkirche.

Lowendenkmal (the lion monument, in case there was any question).

The Jesuitenkirche.

The modern bridge again.  I am sure it has a name, but I don't know it.
