[Update with more details for the photos.]
That's right. Part 1. I'm letting Tim choose the photos and there are too many from Day 4 for just one blog post. Also that's why the people photos are all terrible pictures of me... because Tim TAKES the pictures, too. :)
On Monday, we took the train first to Bern. Bern is the capital of Switzerland. So we saw the parliament building (my understanding is that the flags flying atop the building indicate the parliament is in session). We saw other wonderful sights of historic Bern, including lots of decorative fountains, guild halls, the cathedral, and the uber impressive clock tower. When it started to rain, we ducked into a clearly local restaurant (I think the owner new everyone else who entered by name) for a lovely almost-Italian lunch. After lunch, we hopped the train for Part 2.
And, oh, yes. Bern is named for "Bear." The story is something like this... the guy who founded the town said he would name it after the next animal he killed in a hunt. It was a bear. So there's a bear park. With real bears.
This is the building that houses the parliament.
A statue of Helvetia outside of the parliament building.
Human sized chess out behind the parliament building.

Because bears should be armed, too.

Moses and the commandments outside of the cathedral in Bern. He's especially focused on the second one...
More shots of the cathedral and its creepy gargoyles.
