On Tuesday morning, we started in Perugia by going to a
stained glass museum. The place is only
open for three hours on Tuesdays, but it was absolutely stunning. We got a personal tour from a family member
of the original artist, and we learned all about the art of painted stained
glass. This assuredly gave us much more
respect for any stained glass we saw the rest of the trip. We also got the opportunity to see some of
the artists at work in the studio. It
was really great. Then we took the train
to Assisi. After lunch, we went into the
Basilica San Francesco, a monument, effectively, to Saint Francis. It is basically two churches stacked on top
of each other, both with utterly impressive beautiful frescoes inside. After that, we wandered through the (hilly)
streets of Assisi, ducking into churches and other monuments here and
there. We returned to Perugia for
dinner.
