Italian Thanksgiving

Thursday was an ordinary work day for us. So we postponed Thanksgiving until Sunday. Having it on Sunday was both positive and negative... we had Saturday to prepare, but no day to recover (right back to work and school tomorrow).

I made an apple pie. Tim bought me some American flour; I rolled out dough with a perfect Italian substitute for a rolling pin; and I cooked the whole thing in our mini convection oven (Tim calls it "the easy bake oven"). It turned out surprisingly well. I also made deviled eggs.

Other than my meager contributions, Tim and Amy lead the charge. To help out (which I claim was a major contribution), GP and I took the kids into Trento for the "Piazza dei Bambini" (some Christmas-themed kids' stuff in one of the parks/squares not far from our apartment).

This is just a poorly timed but appropriate photo... Cora was giving GP and I a helluva time this morning. But in this particular instance, she really did just trip and fall down...

After we were perfectly chilled, we joined the others (along with GP's mom and several others from the university... 14 adults and 6 kids in total). The menu included:

Turkey
Sausage-apple stuffing
Rice stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Green beans
Brussels sprouts (with pancetta)
Roasted vegetables
Deviled Eggs
Squash-onion galette
Pane Salata (I think that's right)
Another creamy salad
Gravy
Cranberry sauce (with dried cranberries imported from the US)

And for dessert:

Apple pie with ice cream
Pumpkin pie (with canned pumpkin and candied yams from the US) -- made by Tim
Pecan pie (with pecans imported from Texas) -- made by Amy
Whipped cream

About an hour after eating (we ate about 2, I think) and before dessert, Maya asked "can we eat dinner here, too?"

[PS. I took all the photos. Not so bad, eh? It's amazing what a good camera can do...]
