Buenos Aires: (First) Sunday

I arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday with my grad student, Colin, but without Tim. I had two full days of conference to attend on Monday and Tuesday. Colin and I arrived at the hotel around 9am on Sunday. Since we we obviously not yet able to check into the hotel, we left our bags and set off on a walk around the center of the city. We saw the Teatro Colón, the Avenida 9 de Julio (thought by some to be the widest street in the world). We walked through the theater district, and to Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada. This is the equivalent of the White House: it is the home of the president's office (though the residence is located elsewhere). The Plaza de Maya is the most famous square in Argentina; it is named in honor of the 25th of May, the date of the Argentinian revolution in 1810. We then wandered in the market in the neighborhood of San Telmo. We stopped for café con leche and medialunas at a cafe in San Telmo. We wandered into Puerto Madero, a relatively new (and touristy) neighborhood of Buenos Aires. We stopped at a randomly selected restaurant and ate some steak before heading back to the hotel for the day.

[20,357 steps; 8.43 miles]
