Back in August or September, my parents asked whether we were interested in helping them spend their last time share for the year on a weekend in Galveston in November. We said sure. Turns out that was this past weekend. Outside of my parents booking the timeshare, we did no planning until we were on the way there. But it still worked out fabulously. The weather was great (too cool for swimming, but that's ok with our family, and still super pleasant temperature wise).
Saturday we woke up and took a brief stroll on the beach before grandpa cooked pancakes. Then we headed to Moody Gardens, where we spent the entire day. We saw an amazing exhibit of ice sculptures (luckily they loaned us parkas... it was 9 degrees!), wandered through a rainforest, saw the pieces of the aquarium that are open (it is generally under renovation), watched several 3-D films, etc. We left Moody Gardens to go to downtown Galveston for some seafood for dinner, then we came back and wandered through the trail of lights after dinner. It was a packed day.
Sunday, we took it a bit easier. Grandma and grandpa made breakfast again. Then we went to see the Elissa tall ship in the Galveston harbor. After that, we went on a tour of the Moody Mansion, which both of our kids actually really enjoyed. We had lunch in downtown Galveston, followed by some ice cream on the Strand, before we headed back to Austin.
Maybe this is right after he explained what it meant for the caterpillar version of this butterfly to be "cannibalistic".
