Informed Voting

The other evening, some friends were over for dinner.  As part of the conversation, they asked Maya if she was following the election coverage and which candidate she was supporting.  Maya couldn't recall the candidates (though she ALMOST remembered who the president was).  So I rephrased the question:

Me: Well, if Cinderella and Belle were running against each other to be in charge of our country, who would you vote for?
Maya: [Very quickly] Belle.
[By the way, this is, in my opinion, the right choice.  Belle is better informed, an independent thinker, and very sympathetic.  Cinderella's character is kind of thin, in my opinion.  She lives a hard life, don't get me wrong, but I don't know if she has presidential qualities.]
Me: OK.  Why?
Maya: Belle is prettier.
Me.  Oh.
Tim: So do you need to see pictures of Obama and Romney?
Maya: Yes.
[Maya and Tim leave the room to look for pictures of Obama and Romney.  Tim actually quickly found one that put them side by side.]
[Upon their return]
Me: So who would you vote for?
Maya: Obama.  His tie was purple.  The other tie was red.  I don't like red.
